Te Rua-Manga or the Needle is not the highest,
but still the most spectacular mountain on Rarotonga. Several places on the island your
eye catches this sharp tooth, even from the main road around the island, where this
picture is taken.
Off of The Cross Island Track
there is a path leading you up to the foot of the Needle, and along a steep shelf on the
north side of the top you can reach the view-point on the westside.
Many mountains has their
faces, but few so obvious as this on the east side of Te Rua-Manga. The funny thing is
that it reminds you of the old maori-god the Tangaroa.
